Hey there!
I started my first blog, Chitchat and small talks when I moved to London nearly three years ago. I spent two amazing years and a half, met awesome people, learnt and discovered so many things about myself and the way I see things.
I had to move back to Paris a few months ago though, and even though I kind of gave up (and forgot) about my first blog, for many reasons, but the main ones being the lack of time and motivation (so many things to do in London and maybe too much fun lol). Anyway, today I want to start anew. I mentioned in Chitchat and small talks that I was into homemade personal care products and healthy food, and these things, really matter to me.
I really started making homemade cosmetics about 15 years ago, after I had the great idea to let the worst hairdresser ever dye my hair in Tunisia. After that person messed up my « babies », I started looking for natural ways to treat my hair. Being the daughter of an « old school » Tunisian woman, I’ve always been acquainted with what we call in French « grandma’s remedies » or folk remedies. I have curly hair, and have always been natural.
I did olive oil treatments, henna as a child, clay face masks with mum growing up, but I still used those products full of chemicals on my hair on a daily basis, and I think that marketing worked quite well on me when it came to my curls. So, after my mishap at the hairdresser I started my journey to a chemical free life style. For my face and body care, that was easy, having an intolerant and reactive skin I never used store products especially on my face, the very few times I tried, when I was a teen and my mum bought me a few lines to try, I ended up with spots and itching, and we’ll thank God I didn’t had acne so I didn’t bother looking for stuff for my face. Water and soap and a bit of oil to nourish my skin from time to time was enough for me, I knew nothing about hydration and other stuff. And I admit that I bought my first face cream at 30... For my hair that was a completely different story. I had to educate myself on a daily basis to find the right natural products, learn what was good for it, and what it liked. That wasn’t easy but I was armed with loads of patience and motivation; eventually, I got there over the years.
As for my diet, well, at home we never had processed foods, or already prepared meals. My parents are from that generation that cooks, and eats « real food », and we’ve been raised like that.
I brought a few changes to my food habits when I started living in the UK. I never really had a sweet tooth, I do enjoy having a sweet treat but not on a regular basis. I mostly crave for savory food, yet without really trying to, I cut on my refined sugar intakes, mostly because I felt that everything there tasted much sweeter than in France. I also have to admit that I’m quite picky when it comes to sweet food.
By the way, I am not vegetarian or vegan or anything ending with « an » (I think), but I’m not a big meat eater either and I hate eggs. I’m also not following any particular diet, never been and probably never will, I simply don’t believe in it. So none of the things you’ll find here are aimed to lose weight, just to eat healthy foods, and sometimes not so healthy, because I think that it’s nice to indulge from time to time, and well I’m guilty of indulging in comfort foods, even if I don’t need comfort lol.
I think I’ll stop the introductions here, and start working on my first article.
I hope that you’ll enjoy reading me. Oh and I nearly forgot, English is not my first language, so please bear with me if you spot any mistakes, and don’t hesitate to point them out to me, I’m also here to learn
XoXo
